iPhone SDK Released

iPhone SDK Released

As we mentioned before, Apple decided to announce its iPhone software roadmap on Thursday. Now the beta version of the iPhone SDK has been released, it dramatically expands what business users and consumers can do with their iPhone and iPod Touch.

The SDK only work on Macs now. Developers will have to electronically sign their applications to participate in the program, and these applications will be available through the App Store.

Apple has licensed Microsoft’s ActiveSync protocol, which will allow the iPhone users to use corporate e-mails, contacts, and calendar information quickly and safely. Cisco’s IPSec VPN for secure connections and the 802.1x security standard for improved Wi-Fi security will be introduced in the upcoming software release.

Apple will now be able to pitch the iPhone against the BlackBerry, the leading smartphone in North America, by emphasizing the new business features.

iPhone SDK Coming Soon

Apple Inc. recently invited analysts and members of the media to its Cupertino headquarters for an event March 6 to announce Software Development Kit (SDK) for its much anticipated iPhone and iPod touch.

“Please join us to learn about the iPhone software roadmap, including the iPhone SDK and some exciting new enterprise features,” the company wrote in a digital invite distributed by email.

All this fuss is coming only two days after Apple released the iPhone 1.1.4 firmware version, a firmware update that came with nothing spectacular and that featured only a list of bug fixes with no mention of new included features. This might just be the thing that announces a future (March 6) iPhone update to contain “some exciting new enterprise features”… Or not… We will just have to wait and see what the invitation-only iPhone Software Roadmap event will bring.
